π¬ Why WhatsApp Instead of In-App Chat β And How to Use It Safely
A lot of classifieds apps build their own in-app chat. We deliberately didn't β here's why, and how to stay safe once you're messaging someone from a listing.
Most people in the Chicago Desi community already live on WhatsApp daily β for family group chats, community updates, and day-to-day messaging. Instead of asking you to learn and check yet another inbox inside an app, SastaTrade connects you straight into WhatsApp, where you already are.
It also means conversations don't get stuck inside our platform if you ever want to revisit them later, save a contact, or just message someone back next month about a different item.
A few habits make this safer in practice: don't share more personal information than the deal requires β a first conversation about a used couch doesn't need your home address until you've actually agreed on pickup. Keep early conversations about the item itself, not unrelated personal details.
If a conversation feels like it's drifting into something uncomfortable or clearly unrelated to the listing, you can simply stop responding β you're never obligated to continue a conversation that started from a classifieds ad.
And if someone is abusive, pushy, or clearly scamming through a conversation that started on SastaTrade, report the original listing. Even though the conversation itself happens on WhatsApp, the report still helps us flag the account on our side.
